New Romance Flash Fiction – Guilt

Frantic hands.

Lips smashing together.

Heart racing.

Secret rendezvous.

Desire.

Guilt.
Guilt.
Guilt.

This will be the last time.

“Fuck,” he roared as he thrust one last time and came. “Jesus fucking Christ, I love being inside you.”

I gripped him hard and came, too. Guilt fractured my pleasure, though.

Fucking your sister’s husband would do that.

Confusion flickered in his eyes as I quickly dressed. “Where are you going?”

I slowed and met his gaze.

“I can’t do this anymore. She—” I gulped for air as the suffocating grief consumed me and tears rolled down my face.

His hand slid around my neck and he pulled me close. Pressing his lips to my forehead, he murmured, “This is our time now. Fuck knows, we deserve it.”

Fifteen years flashed through my mind.

Fifteen years of wanting him.

High school sweethearts until my twin sister stole him from me.

Until the night she pretended to be me and made my fiancé a father.

“The kids…” I choked on my words. “They’ll hate you for this.”

It was too soon for this.

“The kids will come around.”

Life was messy.

Love was messier.

And when betrayal and forgiveness sliced through it all, it was absolute agony.

I couldn’t put myself through him again.

The betrayal wasn’t his choice, but in the end he’d chosen her over me.

I may have made peace with her actions, but he’d forever scarred my heart.

I moved out of his embrace.

After one last kiss, I whispered, “No, I won’t survive you again.”

The door clicked shut quietly behind me.

Heartbreak cut me wide open. Again.

And for the second time in my life, he didn’t come after me.

Welcome to some of my #LifeIsMessy flash fiction. I write this when I'm struggling for words or trying to warm up my writing brain. I thought I'd start sharing some of it with you. Who knows, one day I may use one of the pieces in a new novel, but mostly it's just for fun. But if you really love a piece, let me know in the comments so I know to add it to my possible projects list!

This story above… I could imagine using it as backstory for a a woman who finally finds a man worth loving – an alpha who would NEVER let her go. I could imagine her meeting him soon after this, when she was a mess, and him swooping in and showing her love like she's never known *sigh*
